Bigger & Better: Buttons Diapers Super One-Size Cloth Diaper Covers

If you are a seasoned parent, you likely have experience with the diapering catastrophe known as the Blow Out. The blow out is that horror show of baby poop that goes flying out the legs and up the back (or front) of the diaper. Blow outs vary by baby and diaper. Some babies are just not very…..explosive. And not all diapers are created equal. I will never forget the time we were at Green Mill and I just ended up throwing away an entire outfit because we didn’t have any kind of bag to get the mess home.

In the cloth diapering community, we like to pretend blow outs don’t happen with cloth, but that is not true. They are less likely with certain cloth options, but they do still happen. In my experience, a good all-in-two diapering system that includes double gussets, provides pretty great blow out protection. My favorite all-in-two system is Buttons Diapers.  Even if you prefer flats or prefolds, the Buttons Cloth Diapers covers are a good option. A jellyroll fold with a prefold, under a buttons cover can be a perfect newborn option. The double gussets on the legs of the covers are very efficient at containing the bigger messes.

We love Buttons One Size diapers, but sometimes we need a more generously sized cover. Enter the Super One Size Cloth Diaper Cover!

Buttons All-In-Two diapers features:

  • One size fits most
  • Two row snap down rise
  • Strong snap closures
  • Dual Leg gussets
  • Dual front and back snaps for secure inserts
  • Soft and comfortable fleece topped insert
  • Optional night time insert that snaps under day insert

BONUS features for the Super One Size: PUL flaps in front and back for a more secure insert and blowout protection. Plus, a roomier fit for 12-40 lbs.

One insert option is the bamboo/cotton blend doubler. This insert is 70% bamboo and 30% cotton, giving it a soft texture against skin and making it very absorbent. Natural fibers are easier to clean and allow a toddler to feel moisture which can help with potty training. The X-large bamboo/cotton insert is a perfect fit for the large setting on the super One Size.

The natural fiber inserts will shrink in the first couple of washes, so the bamboo insert will seem quite large compared to the big inserts in the microfiber options.

Pictured above, is the standard Buttons One size cover with a Super One size cover. The Super is both wider and longer making it a nice choice for toddlers and night time diapering. Overnight diapering requires more inserts, so a roomier cover is necessary. I have been known to place 4-5 inserts in an overnight diaper!

The regular Buttons one size covers were a little too low-rise for my two year old, so the Super One Size is great for a little more coverage until she is ready for training.

Here is the Sherwood print on an eight month old boy weighing in at about 18 pounds. On the middle setting, there is plenty of room for another insert while still providing a snug fit. The wider cover doesn’t gap at the legs with extra inserts, so blow out incidents are less likely. I don’t know about your experience, but my boys seem able to stretch the laws of physics with blow outs!

They fit well under clothing and don’t take up too much space in your diaper bag.  They are also an economical alternative to disposables. Buttons diapers covers are $11.00 for solid colors and $12.50 for prints. The Super one Size covers are $13.50 for solid colors and $14.50 for prints. The microfiber inserts are $10.50 for a three pack and the hemp/cotton inserts are $23.25 per three pack. A two-pack of the bamboo/cotton doublers is $12.50-$17depending on the size. All in all, Buttons All-in-twos are one of the more economical and effective all-in-two cloth diapers available.
