Rhubarb Watermelon Smoothie-Slushie

My daughter Wyn hate watermelon. As in, she hates it with a ferocity that is pretty hilarious when applied to one’s feelings about a fruit. Her feelings of disgust seem to apply to all melons and squash. If I trick her into a bite of watermelon, she starts gagging and flailing theatrically until she finds a respectable place to spit out the vile invader. However, I learned that if I mix watermelon with a more tart item, she will drink it in slushie or smoothie form. So now if we need to get through our watermelon more quickly, it become a watermelon-rhubarb slushie day.

Rhubarb Watermelon Smoothie-Slushie

  • 2 slices water melon (1/4 slices)
  • 2 stalks rhubarb

Cut your watermelon into chunks and pop them in the freezer for a couple hours. Once frozen, Cut up your rhubarb and put in the blender with the watermelon. Whip those puppies until smooth. Now it is a slush cup and you can try to convince your kids it is way better than a Mr. Misty from the DQ. You youngins’ probably know of those as Arctic Blasts or whatever they call them now. I guess Mr. Misty was too retro and retired.

I like frozen fruit slushies since they help me use up bruised produce that is past it’s prime. That and a small, evil part of me likes tricking the kids into eating things they don’t normally like. I need to get my kicks somewhere!
