Sckoon Menstrual Cup For A Healthy Period

From creating less waste on our Planet to avoiding chemicals and even Toxic Shock Syndrome, there are a myriad of good reasons to ditch tampons. Disposable tampons not only add to our landfills and reek havoc on our plumbing, they also contain dioxin and other harmful chemicals and additives that make them risky when it comes to vaginal health. I am not saying I don’t have any tampons in the house. I keep a box around for company and for myself when they are the more convenient option. However, I have always been aware they are not the best option. I first started trying menstrual cups about six or so years ago. I had not had any children yet and the cup I owned was in the smallest size and was still horribly uncomfortable. I had leaks galore and my flow was too heavy for the cup to be worthwhile.  One thing I learned, was that even if my flow was light enough to not need to empty my cup every 20 minutes, the stiffness of most menstrual cups back then did not work well with a tilted uterus and retroverted cervix. Once I had my first child and those issues were corrected, including the heavy flow, I was excited to get back into trying  a menstrual cup. My old cup was still stiff and uncomfortable though. What is an environmentally conscious lady to do?

Enter the SckoonCup!

SckoonCup was designed to be more comfortable than other menstrual cups on the market.
There are a variety of menstrual cups available, made with rubber, silicone, and other flexible materials.  The SckoonCup is made with medical-grade silicon, approved by the FDA for optimal safety and reusability. The smooth menstrual cup is made in the USA and available in two sizes. Size one for women who have not given birth vaginally, and size two for women who HAVE given birth vaginally. The silicone used in the SckoonCup is more flexible and softer for a very comfortable fit. This flexibility makes it easier to insert and remove without discomfort or spills. Extra softness also helps the cup fit different shapes due to cervical length or prolapse more securely.

One thing I noticed right away about the SckoonCup is how pliable the stem is compared to other cups. My other cup had a very firm stem that I had to trim off because it was so uncomfortable. Most people I knew had done the same. With the SckoonCup stem, there is no need. It is completely comfortable and barely noticeable at full length. Having the full stem makes it so much easier to adjust the cup when it is in place and also for removal.

The silicone used in the SckoonCup is SO much more pliant than other cups. In order to insert a menstrual cup, you need to bend the cup into a U shape and then let it expand back into a ring once inserted. This is easy with the SckoonCup since it is so soft. The softness is also great for abetter fit. The cup conforms to your own internal curves providing a secure fit.

The SckoonCup is seamless and has a smooth rim, so it not only glides in without a hitch, but is also easy to clean. To clean your cup, rinse in cool water and then just clean by hand with water and mild soap. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly. Some people actually boil their cup every now and then, but it is not necessary.

SckoonCups have suction holes located near the rim for leak free protection and can be worn for up to 12 hours. Since a menstrual cup is not absorbent, you don’t need to worry about over-drying or TSS like with tampons.

I just finished my first postpartum period a few weeks back, and also had my most pleasant experience with a menstrual cup.  I found the SckoonCup to be the absolute most comfortable cup. The only leak I had was when I had a very heavy day and went too long before emptying it. I also like that you can pick between a few colors. If we have to deal with the hassle of a cycle, we may as well have pretty supplies! I would like to get a second SckoonCup for when we are out and about so that I can change it out halfway through the day and tuck the other one in a small wet bag though. Sckoon also makes cotton menstrual pads in a variety of prints which can be a great addition to your cup against leaks.
