We managed one last farmer’s market run for the year since it is now in the 30′s at night up here and everyone has scrambled to get the produce picked. We acquired five stalks of leeks, 1.5 pounds of Yukon potatoes, red onions, kale, salad fixings, and garlic. This created a base for enough stew and salad to last four people four days! All for just $13. This small haul would have easily been $30 at our local grocery store, so we saved well over 50 percent. I love the farmer’s market, but the growing season is just so short in Minnesota. Just when the tomatoes are finally ready for picking, the cold comes and it is time to gather squash and call it a year. Then again, the nice thing about our climate is one doesn’t get burned out from gardening.

I really hope to get out to a pumpkin patch this Fall so we can carve a jack-o-lantern and roast seeds! This is my absolute favorite season!
