Sunbaby Cloth Diaper Size Comparison

Speculating the true one-size nature of cloth diapers is always a popular topic in the cloth diapering world. Which ones fit a newborn? Which fit a chubby toddler? Do any fit both? Opinions and brand preferences differ greatly.

The main comments I hear about the Sunbaby 3.0 was that it was too small to be a One Size diaper. The newer 4.0s are supposedly larger, but I still hear on cloth diapering forums that people find them to run a bit, well, petite.

How about you be the judge?

Below shows two identical Sunbaby diapers side by side. One is snapped down as small as it goes. The other is on the largest settings, short of undoing the hip snaps.

While the rise doesn’t go as high as some diapers, it does snap out fairly wide.

How does it compare to some of the tiniest cloth diapers and some of the biggest cloth diapers?

The next pic is of the Sunbaby snapped to the smallest setting, placed next to an X-small Bumgenius AIO.

The Bumgenius AIO is smaller than even the newborn diapers I used on my son, so I have no doubt the Sunbaby could work for a larger newborn. It is rare for a one size cloth diaper to work right away, but these seem like they would work at eight pounds. The leg holes are the same size as the x-small AIO, which is where most people run into leaking and sizing problems with newborns.

The last pic is a Sunbaby on the largest setting next to a Happy Heinys one size on the largest setting.

Now, Happy Heinys one size cloth diapers are notoriously huge. I have heard of people using them on a 45 pound child. As you can see, the waist and leg holes on the Sunbaby are quite a bit smaller than the Happy Heiny, but so are those features on most one size diapers. I still think the Sunbaby could accommodate up to 35 pounds on a proportioned child.

What do you think? Do you use Sunbaby cloth diapers? What are your thoughts on the sizing?
