Sunbaby One Size Pocket Cloth Diaper Overview

Back in August I ordered a dozen Sunbaby cloth diapers directly from the Sunbaby website. There are a myriad of “cheapy” pocket diapers out there, most of which can be purchased on eBay. Ordering cheap eBay cloth diapers comes with risks and concerns, not to mention low expectations. Some people are concerned about the production of these cloth diapers since they are manufactured overseas and working conditions are mostly unknown. However, many U.S. brands are also manufactured in the same region, some even in the same factories. Brand integrity and worker’s rights are not the point of this review though.

Sunbaby cloth diapers have a real website and real owner you can talk to when you have questions about the working conditions of the laborers and also for the peace of mind knowing there is a real human behind them. You order and pay through Paypal and can email Sun pei with any questions. These cloth diapers are a popular topic on cloth diapering forums so I wrote up a review with my experience and thoughts.

For the review pics, I decided on the Frog Print. Sunbaby pocket diapers are a standard pocket diaper with a fleece inner lining for the pocket, and PUL (poly urethane laminate) for the outer shell.

They can be ordered in batches of 12, 24, or 48 with one or two inserts. You can often order fewer than 12 if you contact the owner directly. I ordered 12 diapers with 12 inserts for $60. At $5 a piece, I am pleasantly surprised with the quality.

The inner fleece pocket has the opening in the back with an over lapping flap.

The outer shell features snaps for three rise levels and several waist snaps for adjustability. It also has hip snaps to help avoid “wing droop”.

The fleece and PUL seem to be about the same quality as other more expensive brands of pocket diapers. The fleece is soft and washes clean and the PUL layer appears durable. I have been using these for a month with no issues. The microfiber insert is plush and thick. I believe it has three layers of microfiber sewn together. I use the shell on the small-medium rise, so I fold the insert over a bit in the front to fit in the pocket. I only use the one insert and it is adequate for naps and regular play. I generally change the diapers after three hours or so, so I know it lasts at least that long. It is a rather small diaper, so I am not sure how many inserts can fit in the pocket. I think two would work, but not three.

My boy Lucky is in this Sunbaby cloth diaper on the second to lowest rise setting. Sunbaby diapers are known for running small, but Lucky is on the petite side so they work great for him. At about 32 inches tall and 24 pounds, he has no problem wearing these on the first or second rise setting and the second setting for the hip snaps.

We have not had any leaks. The leg holes are snug without leaving any marks. On a dainty toddler, they fit well. However they are smaller, so I might not recommend Sunbaby for a chunkier toddler. For my son, these will last through potty training, but I doubt they would last for a child in the 80th percentile.

The plus side of running small is they will easily fit a newborn. Sunbaby pocket diapers would make a great newborn stash since they are petite and inexpensive. Check out my size comparison pictures to get an idea of their size. They shipped more quickly than I expected (free shipping!), and at $5 or less a piece I don’t have to worry about one getting destroyed.

Pros:

-inexpensive

-quality fabric and snaps

-free shipping

-cute prints

Cons:

-made and sold overseas so long ship time

-elastic feels flimsier than some brands

-run small

-sewing can be second quality

Overall, I think they are worth the money. Sunbaby provide an easy, cheap way to beef up your cloth diaper stash without spending too much or worrying about your investment. They have a reputation for being a better quality than other eBay cloth diapers and periodically come out with new prints as available.

Stay tuned for my Sunbaby cloth diaper giveaway. I will be giving away two brand new Sunbaby one size cloth diapers in neutral prints!

Great Review! My 2 month old wears her Sunbaby on the same settings. I have to say I do love them, I haven’t had any blowouts. I do use 2 inserts in them.
